Dick Hancock was born in Tacoma, Washington. He and his
wife, Gloria, currently live in the same area, nestled in
the shadows of majestic Mt. Rainier. Dick is the father of
six children, and grandfather of five grandchildren. |
| |
|
In 1986, Dick began working as a professional wildlife
photographer. His photographs have been published by outdoor
and travel magazines, such as Field & Stream; Bugle, the
quarterly journal of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation;
Alaska Airlines Magazine; Bowhunter; and Chase, Boone &
Crockett’s quarterly magazine. |

Dick’s work has been commissioned in calendars, brochures and many
other publications. Organizations utilizing his photographs include
the US Forest Service; Mt. Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest; US
Department of the Interior; Washington State Parks Department;
Washington State Fish & Game; Colorado Division of Wildlife; Idaho
Department of Wildlife; Northwest Interpretive Association; Puget
Sound Eyes-On-Wildlife; and Weyerhaueser Corporation, just to name a
few. |

The ability to capture images of wildlife that are very unique and
rare is Dick’s trademark, and separates him from all other
photographers. He photographed a wolf in the State of Washington—the
first photographer to do so in that state in twenty years—which was
documented and published by the Tacoma News Tribune. 20 million
people viewed Dick’s photography on NBC Nightly News, with Tom
Brokaw. More than once, his photographs have sold for $10,000 and
his work hangs on the walls of such prominent people as Ret. United
States Army General Norman Schwartzkopf. |
| |
|
Dick has traveled the world in pursuit of new and unique
wildlife images. His travels have taken him from Alaska to
Texas, and into Canada and Africa. His extensive travel is
apparent through the diversity of images he offers. He has
an intimate knowledge and relationship with his subject
matter, as well as, compositional skill and technical
mastery of his medium. |

| |
|
In pursuit of spectacular images, Dick is very conscious to
not harm or harass the wildlife he photographs. He has
donated countless hours of work to several Fish and Game
departments on projects that promote the protection of
wildlife and their habitat. However, the wildlife is
sometimes not as considerate of Dick’s well being. He is a
survivor of a cougar attack! |
| |
|
As a professional photographer, Dick Hancock strives to
provide something unique and breathtaking to the viewer. It
has been said of Dick that he is one of the top ten wildlife
photographers in the nation. |
