The Old Cannery Furniture Warehouse Engineer is at it
again! Through some tough negotiations he has been able to secure a very
large area in our newly designed Kids World for a 13 foot by 20 foot "Scenery
Railroad". This Lionel O Scale set up will have three trains running through
sculpted mountains, gulches, trestles and bridges and he said he plans on a
unique Circus
Scene with a Ferris Wheel and all that goes along with an old fashioned Circus.
The best part is that it will be interactive for kids and adults alike to take
part in the running of the trains and accessories that will be part of the
scenery.
Here are some pictures taken of the progress. The Scenic
Railroad is complete and you will definitely want
to come down and take a personal viewing of this and all the other fun and
interesting stuff The Old Cannery has to offer.

Come on down to see the completed Scenery
Railroad!
Dave Crossman was instrumental in designing and
constructing The Old Cannery Railroad. His
interest in trains began with his first train set, an American Flyer Train set,
given to him in 1952 for Christmas and he has been hooked every since.
Moving to the Seattle area in 1979, Dave continued a long career of building and
setting up model trains for himself and for friends and family. Dave is modest
to admit to his accomplishments but he said "I guess you could say I have laid
enough "N" "HO" and "G" track in scale miles to go from Seattle to
Portland". He failed to mention the mountains, valleys, trestles and everything
else that goes with it.
He currently has a very large "HO" shelf railroad he built
in his home near Cle Elum. It is capable of handling up to 6 different trains at
the same time. A shelf railroad is one that runs along the walls near the
ceiling and is bracketed to the wall. It was this railroad that the owners
of The Old Cannery first saw that inspired them to have Dave build the
suspended trains that we now have running between
our showrooms and the warehouse.
Dave is one of the first to admit that he has had help along the
way and wants to thank everyone who has lent a hand or inspiration to his love
for the R/R including Ed at Track Side Trains in Puyallup who has been supplying
most of the materials needed to build the Lionel railroad in our Kid's World.
Dave retired in 2005 but will always be remembered as
the original Old Cannery Engineer.
Dwayne R. Hermans, affectionately known as "Grouchy" is a 30
year veteran of model railroading and is a bona fide Rail Road enthusiast.
His own "G" scale garden railroad, all 783 feet of it is nick named the
U.G.L.Y. R/R (Unusual Garden Looney Yard) R/R because he has left the norm
and has created a whimsical back yard featuring trains, dinosaurs, bugs,
frogs and more. Dwayne is a long term member of The Puget Sound
Garden Railroad Society and other local R/R organizations. I guess being a
retired Army Sgt. has twisted his mind beyond help and he only relates to rail
road crossings and things that go cho cho in the night because if the
subject isn't about rail roading he can live up to the nick name. Seriously,
Grouchy has been a great help to Dave, our resident Engineer in the
building of this newest addition to the Old Cannery Railroad and we thank him
for his selfless and inspiring dedication to further the hobby. Thank you
Grouchy for your helping hand.
